Change the way Firefox 3.6 handles new tabs

In previous versions of Firefox, when opening a new tab - whether by right clicking an existing tab and selecting the New Tab option, pressing the Ctrl+T keyboard shortcut, or opening a link in a new tab - it would always open at the far right of the tab bar. With the release of Firefox 3.6 this behaviour has changed to mimic that of Internet Explorer. Now when a new tab is opened, it appears immediately to the right of the currently selected tab. To many people this will make a degree of sense as it means that when opening links from one page in new tabs, they are grouped together in a fairly logical fashion. But the new method of handling tabs is not to everyone's tastes and it can be changed by adjusting a hidden setting. If you take a browse through Firefox's Options screen, you will find no obvious setting that can be changed to alter tab behaviour. This is because the way tabs work is controlled by a setting which is more deeply hidden in the browser configuration files. In the address bar, type about:config and press Enter. A warning screen will appear; this rightly warns that changing settings on the screen that follows could have adverse effects on the browser, but the tip that follows is perfectly safe so click the 'I'll be careful, I promise!' button. Scroll through the list of options that is displayed and locate the one labelled browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent. Notice that this Boolean value is currently set to its default value of false, but by double clicking it you can change it to true. You will now find that new tabs are treated in the way they used to be.
