If you avoid running backups because you typically find the software a pain to use, then you're not alone. Most backup tools are overcomplicated, come with a host of confusing options, and take an age to set up. And even then there's no guarantee of success: if the worst happens, and you lose data, you may still find you've forgotten to back up a few essential files. It doesn't have to be this way, though. Especially if you try Genie Timeline Home 2.0. This isn't just some identikit backup tool that works much the same way as everything else - it features some real and significant differences that makes the program far easier to use. There's the selection of data to be backed up, for instance. The program comes with a range of data types: bookmarks, email, music, Office files, pictures, my Documents, and more. Just check the options you need and that particular data, folder or file type will be added to the backup job. It's all very easy, although you do have the option to specify particular files and folders to be backed up as well, if that's required. You won't be drowned in technical options, either. Genie Timeline asks you to make only two decisions about your backup job: which drive will be used to store the data, and whether it should be compressed. There's nothing else. You don't have to select filters, decide whether this should be an "incremental" or "differential" backup type, set up a schedule or do anything else at all. The program just works. Don't imagine this simplicity means Genie Timeline is lacking in power, though, because in reality it has far more features that most of the competition. Genie Timeline is continuously backing up, for instance, so you always have the maximum protection. But it only backs up new and changed sections of files, which means performance is very good. And the program coexists well with other applications, slowing down or even pausing altogether to avoid interfering with them. The backup process maintains multiple versions of your documents, too, which are easy to restore individually. And so if you're working on a particular Word document, say, and want to recover the version you had last Wednesday, then just browse the timeline - it's probably there. And if you've chosen the Disaster Recovery option then Genie Timeline will save enough key system files to help restore your PC, if it won't boot in future. Simply create a bootable startup disk on a partition, USB drive or ISO image and you'll be ready for the worst. If your current backup tool isn't doing the job you need, then, or you've given up on backup software altogether, then Genie Timeline Home 2.0 just might be the program you need. Give it a try - we think you'll be impressed.
