Lotus has a released a standalone “Fixpack” for its free office suite. Lotus Symphony 3.0 FixPack 1 consists mostly of bug fixes, but sees some capabilities – specifically support for creating and maintaining connectors in Lotus Symphony Documents and Spreadsheets – restored having been disabled for the main 3.0 release. The FixPack also promises to improve performance when loading or saving Microsoft Excel files that contain multiple large pivot tables, but its main thrust is to correct a relatively small number of bugs – 35, many of which have been reported by end users since Lotus Symphony 3.0 left beta last year. Mac users will be pleased to learn it’s now possible to copy files from Preview into Lotus Symphony, while plain text files will now open correctly in Documents rather than Spreadsheets. Most other bug fixes are concerned with correcting problems displaying or editing specific elements, such as tables in Microsoft Word files or specific formula are used in Spreadsheets. Others prevent the program crashing when certain conditions are met. A full list of bug fixes can be found on the FixPack 1 download page. The FixPack 1, which is available for Windows, Linux and Mac platforms, isn’t available as an update from within Lotus Symphony; instead, all Symphony users are urged to download and install the FixPack manually from the Lotus Symphony website.
